What can we do with super slow motion video, beyond observe what movement looks like when it is slowed down? In Time not a video I challenge the dominant mode in which we use slow motion video by engaging in a sustained daily practice of slow motion movement, conducted solely through a close study of slow motion video. Rather than to learn the “truth” about movement (by looking closely) or to perfectly mimic a kind of motion (through practice), this motion study investigates a space where there is no line separating that which constitutes human movement and that which constitutes video movement, and inquires how such a practice might hold the potential for change.
After several months of a daily slow motion movement practice, the culminating performance was a talk on slow motion video, delivered in slow motion at Trinity Square Video in Toronto.
